Gastón Díaz is Assistant Professor at the Economic and Social History Program of the Universidad de la República (Uruguay), specializing in Latin American economic history. He holds a PhD in Economic History and has published on banking history, public enterprises, and railway development. His current work examines the gold standard in Latin America and broader questions in financial and monetary history. He also teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in economics, history, and development.
Ph.D. in Economic History, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Faculty member at the Institute of Economics, Universidad de la República, Uruguay, and Full Professor of Economic History and Development. Co-editor of the Journal of Iberian and Latin American Economic History. He was Director of the Department of Economics (2019–21), led the Economic History research group (2013–19) and served as President of the Uruguayan Association of Economic History (2012-2014). His research focuses on Latin American modern economic growth, inequality, regional development and natural resources.

Ph.D. in Economic History, University of Gothenburg. Professor of the Economic History Program at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Universidad de la República, Uruguay. He served as Faculty Dean and university Research Vice-Provost.
He presided over the first Latin American Economic History Congress in 2007 and was a member of the Bureau of the International Economic History Association. He has widely published on Latin American economic history in the long run. He has given postgraduate courses and research seminars at over thirty universities in the Americas and Europe.
